More Than a Wish and a Prayer
You are on a mission to change lives: to feed families, form faith, educate kids, or strengthen your community. You also know those outcomes are measured by much more than attendance numbers or volunteer slots filled.
So how do you gauge that kind of change? Can you know whether you are making a difference?
I believe you can. And it starts with curiosity, not with a dashboard.
Start with what you want to learn
Data is just numbers until someone gets curious. The best starting point is a question, not a report.
Do the people you serve give first or volunteer first? For those who give first, how long is it before they begin volunteering? Who showed up for one service day and not the next, and what was different?
These are leadership questions. An AI tool can answer them quickly once they are asked. It will not think to ask them.
Notice where the momentum is
Once you are asking, patterns show up.
A jump in first-time participants may be an opening for mentoring or a new program. Volunteer shifts that fill quickly, again and again, may mean it is time to add another. If one site, class, or group is thriving, what is happening there that others could learn from?
A sustainable organization knows how people are engaging, anticipates what they will need next, and adjusts. That is stewardship: putting your people, your time, and your money where they will have the most impact.
Curiosity takes discipline
It is easy to be curious for one meeting. It is harder to keep asking when the week is full or the answer might be uncomfortable.
Make room for it. Put one question on your leadership agenda each month and let the data speak to it. Over a year, that is twelve things you know about your people that you used to guess at.
A question for your leadership team
What is one thing about your people that you have always assumed and never checked?
